Lars Mikkelsen-1Lars Dittmann Mikkelsen, born 6 May 1964 is a Danish actor. He has appeared as Troels Hartmann (Copenhagen mayoral election candidate) in The Killing and [1] Charles Augustus Magnussen (third series of Sherlock), the Russian president Viktor Petrov on Netflix's American House of Cards, and Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars Rebels. He was awarded the Reumert Prize of Honour in 2011. At the age of 27, he enrolled at National Theatre School of Denmark. He graduated from the institution in 1995. Apart from his role in the drama series aired internationally as The Killing, he subsequently appeared in two more internationally highly acclaimed Danish drama series, Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He also played a central part in an episode of BBC drama Sherlock as blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen.In the American television series House of Cards, he played the president of Russia. In the year 2018, he took home an International Emmy Award for his performance in the Danish TV drama Herrensveje. It aired in the UK as Ride Upon the Storm in 2019.
